Scrutiny in the media has not eliminated any of the controversy surrounding homeopathy and its spread in this country. U.S. and German researchers reviewed data recently from 89 studies conducted between 1943 and 1995. Overall, they found that patients who take homeopathic treatments were more than twice as likely to see an effect as those taking a placebo. Yet the medical establishment remains skeptical about this practice, whose roots date to the era of Hippocrates.
